Kurt Miene

Kurt Miene serves as a Senior Consultant with Truck Accident & Incident Experts, LLC (TAIE), based in Sioux City, Iowa. He specializes in investigating Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) crashes and incidents that are referred to TAIE by either Plaintiff or Defense Counsel. It is Kurt's responsibility to investigate the crash/incident by completing a thorough review of discovery materials and case files, often to include complete on-site inspections of the CMV and/or crash location, and the determination of contributing factors and causation related to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and industry standards of care. He is tasked with developing comprehensive reports and providing unbiased professional opinions that assist the trier of the facts, the Jury in understanding the complex details contained within each case file.

Kurt is a TAIE Senior Consultant who holds Level 1 FMCSA-MCSAP Roadside Enforcement training among other qualifications. Individuals with this certification have achieved an advanced level within the industry. Kurt began his law enforcement career as a Police Officer in Alta, Iowa for five years, then worked as a Deputy Sheriff in Fayette County, Iowa for four years. In 1999, he took a position with the Iowa Department of Transportation, Motor Vehicle Enforcement as a State Officer, serving there for over twenty years. His certifications include PHMSA-HMR and Motorcoach. During his career, Kurt has responded to and/or investigated over 1,000 CMV crashes and inspected tens of thousands of CMVs and drivers for roadside enforcement purposes. He was a Certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) from 2003 until his retirement in 2021, as well as a Field Training Officer (FTO) for the department for 20 years. After retiring, he worked as a Safety Director for a Midwest regional towing and recovery company with over 75 CMV units and 50 CMV drivers for 3.5 years. Kurt also continues to volunteer as a firefighter in his community, holding national certifications in FFI, FFII, and HazMat Operations, and maintained an EMT providers license for 33 years until 2023. As a TAIE Level 1 Senior Consultant, Kurt provides testimony at depositions, trials, and de bene esse proceedings when requested by counsel.
